Moore Property In Lewisburg Still In Plan
By Jonathan Wright
Plans are still underway to
develop tile "Moore property" on
U. S. 219 pending lhe acquisi-
tion of additional investment
funds, according to Dan Hart.
Mr ttaIl, one of eight investors
who intend to construct a busi-
ness, medical, and professional
complex on the 34-acre site
across fron~ Bill Lewis Motors,
said he hopes tile group will
have the needed hinds to pur
chase the property by tile end of
December. Construction work on
an initial access road through
the property from U, S. 219 to
Fairview Road should begin
sometime this winter, he said.
The access road was a re-
quirement made by the Lewis-
burg City Council last November
in voting to re-zone the eastern
40 per cent of tile property as
commercial, giving the legal go_
ahead for the project. No build-
ing pern~lts will be granted, tile
stipulations said, until the road
is constructed,
Numerous cily residents at-
tended public hearings late last
year belbre the final vote was
taken. Residents opposed to the
project acquired approximately
350 petiiion signatures in Janu-
ary to put the re-zoning decision
to a refi~rendum vole in a special
April 10 election. Voters sup-
ported tile re-zoning by a 474-
299 mar in.
The ~onstruction of "Seneca
Park." as the development is to
be called, is planned in three
stages. The first will cost ap-
proximately $2 million and con-
sists of a drug store, grocery
store, and a variety of other
shops, to be built on the eastern
end of the property fronting U. S.
219.
The second phase includes
business, medical, and profes-
sional office space. The third
phase, nearest Falrview Road,
inch]des condominiums, town
houses, and garden apartments.
The second and third phases
have a price tag of near $10 mil-
lion, according to the investors.
Investors include Mr Hart,
Carl IApps, Gordon "Skip" lkner,
Fritz Glasser, Malcom McDanlel,
William Johnson, and Gordon
Lewis, all of Greenbrier County.
An additional member of the in-
vestment group is James Hurley
of Pittsburgh.

If you have found weevils in
your oatmeal or worms in your
flour, you're not alone. Each
year, West Virginians discard
thousands 'of dollars worth of
food because it has become in-
fested with insects,
Several kinds of pantry pests
feed on dried food in storage. All
pantry pests are small, and all
go unnoticed until they become
numerous or begin crawling or
flying about tile house.
These unwanted guests often
enter packages of food as tiny
eggs that are undetected when
the food is being packaged. Dur-
ing storage, these eggs hatch
and the young insects develop.
Therefore, food kept for long
periods may become infested
even when there are no breaks
in the packaging.
Other pests simply fly in dur-
ing warn] weather, or pests ]nay
be brought into the house on
decorative dried articles such as
grains, nuts, flowers, and seeds.
Most daJnage is done by the
young beetle grubs or by worms,
which are really caterpillars.
Both grubs and caterpillars are
usually lightcolored and small,
and they are quite hard to see in
the infested food.
Often you (:an prevent pantly
pests by buying food in small
quantities and using it within a
short time.
You have other options: Be-
fore storing, you may heat-steril-
ize many dried loods. Simply
place them in an oven set at
140-150 degrees lbr 20 to 30
minutes.
