i/ .: ii Cobb, bride-elect of William Hall all announce engagement Mrs. Ernest Tinsley are happy to mt of their to Mr. William son of Mr. and Mrs. North Carolina. Funeral Home, Families personally served by owner 445-2911 By PASTOR DAN VAUGHN Life is full of choices. Each day we make hundreds of choices that determine the direction of our lives. Some choices bring blessings, some choices bring curses. Some choices bring happiness and some bring sadness. Everyone has problems and burdens to deal with on a regular basis but Our attitude on dealing with those problems is the important thing. I can deal with life's frustrations in one of two ways. I can worry or I can pray. Worry? Why worry? What can worry do? It never keeps a trouble from overtaking you. It gives you indigestion and sleepless hours at night. And fills with gloom the days, however fair and bright. It puts a frown upon the face, and sharpness to the tone. We're unfit to live with others and unfit to live alone. Worry? Why worry? What can worry do? I never keeps a trouble from overtaking you. Pray? Why pray? What can praying do? Praying reatly changes things, arranges life anew. It's good for your indigestion, give peaceful sleep at night. And fills the grayest, gloomiest day with ray of glowing light. It puts a smile upon your face, the love note in your tone. Makes you fit to live with others and fit to live alone. Pray? Why pray? What can praying do? It brings God downfrom Heaven, to live and work with you. Mark 1:1-6 The first founded in London by Mr. Smyth. (found Irches, p. 42) Jesus built his church. Matt. From the time he was born in Nursia, Italy, in the year 480, Benedict had a burning longing, a feeling for the need to be alone, to seek out this elusive and indescribable beauty that irresistably drew him. When he was sent to Rome to be educated, he was totally repelled by the vices of the city. He fled to Enide, a place thirty miles away. There he began to live the life of a hermit and was fed by monk named Romanus. In spite of his seclusion, people heard about Benedict's holiness and sought him out. A community of monks at Vicovaro asked him to be their abbot, but when he imposed a strict rule on them they became disillusioned and tried to poison him. Benedict fled from such a hostile atmosphere and in Subiaco found himself again the head of a group of monks. He organized them into twelve monasteries. Imposing a wise rule on them, the monasteries soon became a center of spirituality and learning. Opposition against Benedict .arose again, so he left Subiaco and settled at Monte Cassino. On the mountain he destroyed a templeto Apollo and built a monastery that was to become the birthplace of Western Monasticism. Benedict organized the monks into a single monastic community and wrote his famous rule which prescribed common sense, a life of moderate aceticism, prayer, study, and work and community life under one superior. The most important thing the monks did was to recite daily the Divine Office - the official prayer of the Church. The date of Benedict's death is somewhat uncertain . he died sometime between 543 and 547. His feast day is celebrated July 11. In 1964 Pope Paul VI named Benedict patron and prote'ctor~ of Europe. .--"- Babies born at Humana The following babies were born recently at Humana Hospital in Fairlea: 6-16 Clinton Neal to Mr. and Mrs. Carlos F.
