Dr. L. Marshall Washington, president of New River CTC, wel- comed the .graduates, their families and guests. He then introduced the platform guests including Deborah Hill of Summersville, representing the New River CTC Board of Gov- ernors; Nathan England, vice presi- dent of the Faculty Senate; and Jus- tin Rader, student representative on the Board of Governors, all of whom brought greetings to the graduates. The commencement address was delivered by Mayor Robert Sharer of Summersville, a member of the New River CTC Foundation's Nicholas County Advisory Board. Also participating in the ceremony were the West Virginia Brass Quin- tet performing the processional and recessional; the JROTC Color Guard of the Wilderness Battalion, Nicho- las County, which posted the colors; Yvonne Seay, music teacher at Trap Hill Middle School, who performed the National Anthem; Steve Wise, dean of the New River CTC Mercer County Campus, who gave the invo- cation; and Gerry Hough, professor of business at the Nicholas County Campus, who gave the benediction. Dr. Amy DeSonia, vice president and chief academic officer, presented the candidates for graduation. Wash- ington and Registrar Donna Lewis conferred the degrees and presented the certificates to graduates. The degrees awarded were Asso- ciate of Fine Arts (A.F.A.); Associ- ate of Science (A.S.); and Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S:). Certifi- cates also were awarded in a number of fields. New River Community and Tech- nical College is one of nine state- supported community cain- puses in Beckley, Lewisburg, Princ- eton and Summersville. Technical programs are also offered at the Ad- vanced Technology Center in Ghent.
