About 45 students from East- ern Greenbrier Middle School, Greenbrier Episcopal School, '.Marlinton Middle School and Mountain View Elementary and Middle School participated inthe '.event thtt showcased their scien- tlfic knowledge. It also included !workshops featuring a forensic (lab (crime case), robotic patient simulations (for blood pressure), ;anatomy lab and microbiology lab, i This year's winners were: Ex- perimental category" Steven Mc- Mahan, first place; Harry Mohler and Victoria Rose, second place (tie); Cameron ZObrist, third place; Non-experimental catego- ry.' Fiona Rose-Beery, first place; Bronwyn McMahan O'Shea, second place; Luna Martin and Cammie Wickline, third place (tie). Brian Griffith, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences, said the event has been success- ful in only its second year. "This event was a great oppor- tunity for middle school students to be exposed to a variety of dif- ferent scientific disciplines," he 'said. "In workshops presented as part of the science fair, students had the chance to solve a murder case using forensic evidence and learn about antibiotic resistance, how the brain works and robots used for medical instruction." Science fair sponsors included WVSOM, the Center for Rural and Community Health and the Greenbrier Valley Chapter of Sigma Xi. Experimental category winners were: Harry Mohler, 2nd place; Steven McMahan, 1st place and Cameron Zobrist, 3rd place. Non-experimental category winners were: Fiona Rose-Beery, 1st place; Bronwyn McMa- han O'Shea, 2nd place and Luna Martin and Cammie Wickline, tied 3rd place. Rainelle Christian Academy graduates announced Rainelle, Christian Academy graduated three Seniors in a cere- mony on May 31 at Sewell Valley Baptist Church. Those receiving diplomas were Amber Belle Hill, . Thornton Lee O'Dell and Chris- tian Elizabeth Stelzig. The speak- er, Jake D'Andre challenged the graduates to put the Lord first in their future endeavors. Receiving the Ralph Fasick Scholarship giv- en by the Western Greenbrier Ro- tary Club was Thornton O'Dell. RCA is also very proud to an- nounce that five former RCA students graduated from colleges this spring. These are Rachael McKinney, Alderson Broaddus University; Adam Smailes, West Virginia University; Nick Stel- zig, Ambassador Baptist College; Ethan Thomas, University of Charleston; and Zachary Wood, West Virginia University. RCA graduates have distin- guished themselves in a variety of careers and ministries since the school began in 1978.
