8B III The Mountain Messenger, Tuesday, March 29, 1988 Porterfield named Citizen of theYear The Lewisburg Lions Club recognized Lion Alvin Porterfield as Citizen of the Year for 1987. This award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary community serivce over an extended period of time. Membership in the Lions Club is not a prerequisite for selection as Citizen of the Year. The honoree's name is inscribed upon a permanent plaque which is maintained by the recipient for a period of one year. When a new recipient is named, the permanent plaque is surrendered but is replaced by an individual plaque which becomes the property of the recipient. Porterfield, who retired last spring from the Greenbrier County Schools as Assistant Superinten- dent, has long been active ~n community affairs in the county.
