Easter will soon be here and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ should be the central theme. The literal, bodily resurrection of Je,~us Christ can rightfully be called the cornerstone of Christian doctrine. The death of Jesus Christ would have no value if He did not rise from the grave. If Christ is not risen, our preaching is vain, our faith is vain, and we are yet in our sins (I CoL 15: 14, 17). In order for us to see the importance of the resurrection of Christ, let's look at three things guaranteed by the resurrection. First of all, the resurrection guarantees us a Savior on whom we can depend. Jesus repeatedly told His disciples that He would be killed and then be raised again on the'third day (Matt. 16:21; 17:23; 20:19). If He did not rise from the grave, He would not be trustworthy. But He did just what He said. He rose from the grave. We can depend on Him to tell us the truth, because He kept His word. The resurrection also guaran- tees us the Scripture can be believed. The Old Testament scriptures prophesied the resurrection of Christ, In Psalm 16:10 we read, "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." From Peter's sermon on the day of Pentecost, we learn ,that this Old Testament passage was referring to the resurrection of Christ (Acts 2:29-32). Also in Isiah 55:3 we read about the sure mercies of David "as the basis of the invitation, "Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters...incline your ear, and come unto me: hear. and your soul shall live..." (Isaiah 55: 1.3). Then, years later, we hear Paul preaching at Antioch that "the sure mercies of -PRE--ARRANGED FUNERAL PLANS David" was an (31d Testament reference to the resurrection of Christ (Acts 13:34). Now, since Christ rose from the grave, we know that the Scriptures are true. We can believe the Scriptures because they have been shown to speak the truth. It is no wonder that liberals do not major on preaching the Word of God. They have denied its truths and therefore to them it is not trustworthy. They are really in a very sad condition. They have denied Jesus and have no Savior! They have denied the Scriptures and have no standard! Then the resurrection guaran- tees us a salvation which is complete. When Jesus died for us On the cross of Calvary, we were not yet born, therefore our sins were all future. God looked ahead and knew all the sins we would commit from birth to death, and He placed those sins on Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:6; I Peter 2:24). There on the cross, He suffered the wrath of God for our sins. This was the punishment we deserved, but Jesus took it for us. Then He cried, "It is finished," and bowed His head and died (John 19:30). ",, Now, if the story ended there, there would always be the question, "were all my sins paid for?", "did death conquer Him?" "If death conquered Him, does that mean I must face God with my sin?" There would be no way to know our salvation was complete. But thanks be unto God Jesus rose from the grave on the third day. Death could not hold Him. He is alive! The resurrection is proof that Jesus paid it all and that God was satisfied with the sacrifice of His son (Isiah 53:11). Our Savior is risen, our salvation is complete. We have complete forgweness because He paid it all. We have complete deliverance because He conquered all. We have complete righteousness because He was raised for our justification (Romans 4:25). Relieve your family of the burden of decision making. Making funeral arrangements at the time of toss is extremely diffcult for those left behind. When the funeral and payment I have been arranged befbr~-I hand, most of the decisions yoO. | make today will guarantee that your family will be protected against future rising cost.
